Tech adoption and collaboration in AEC: an IT leadership perspective

12 November, 2024

Technology is rapidly reshaping the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry, but is your business making the most of its collaboration tools? The latest research report from Ideagen, "The state of tech adoption
and collaboration in AEC 2024 research report," uncovers a significant disconnect between leadership expectations and the actual usage of collaboration solutions among end-users.

Why this report matters

The AEC sector faces unique challenges when it comes to technology adoption. While 90% of IT leaders report successful rollouts of new collaboration tools, there are underlying issues affecting user engagement, productivity and compliance. This disconnect poses risks to data security and organizational efficiency.

Key insights from the report

The report surveyed 188 senior IT decision-makers in AEC and highlights:

  1. The gap between leadership and end-users: While IT decision-makers believe their collaboration tools are successful, end-users often bypass protocols, compromising both productivity and data security.

  2. Data security risks: Inconsistent use of IT tools leads to data storage issues, making it difficult for employees to find crucial information, ultimately affecting project outcomes.

  3. Bridging security and productivity: Finding a balance between effective information sharing, security measures and productivity is key. The report highlights the importance in aligning IT strategies with end-user needs.
